The Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thought has been awarded annually since 1995 by the Hannah Arendt Association for Political Thought in Bremen. The prize honors and commemorates the political thinking of the German-American Jew who was forced to flee Germany before the rise of National Socialism. The prize is awarded to individuals who, in the tradition of political theorist Hannah Arendt, contribute to public political thinking and action and take the “risk of publicity” in the spirit of Hannah Arendt.
The prize winners are nominated by an independent, international jury. The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and is sponsored by the Bremen Senate, the Heinrich Böll Foundation Bremen, and the Heinrich Böll Federal Foundation.
