The internationally renowned political philosopher and theorist Seyla Benhabib will receive the Hannah Arendt Prize for Political Thinking in 2025. The award ceremony will take place on 9 December 2025 at Bremen Town Hall.

The award is endowed with €10,000 and is presented by the Hannah Arendt Association for Political Thought e.V., with funding provided by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and the Heinrich Böll Foundations at both the federal level and in Bremen.

»Facile expressions such as ‘Eurocentrism’ and ‘the demise of the West and the rise of the rest’ miss the real challenge…: how to extend moral, legal, and political universalism to address the experiences of the multitude of humanity for whom western modernity has brought not only equality but also subordination, not only emancipation but also domination… As opposed to the growing number of voices shouting that the project of modernity is over, I maintain that it is still capable of transformation through democratic contestation.«
